Mary Causer
I am a mom to Gemma and a grandma to Chloe, I also have the privilege of being one of the church leaders who has responsibility for pastoral care and oversight of mission for the church.
For many years after moving to Salford I worked as a Prison Chaplain working with men and women as they were released from prison, as part of this work I managed a charity called Greater Manchester Community Chaplaincy. In March 2011 I felt it was the right time to leave, hand the work on and move on into something new that had been opened up for me.
In July 2011 the church opened a coffee shop called The Vine Cafe in our local community. We wanted to offer something that our area did not already have, The Vine Cafe offers a friendly environment, good volunteers and most importantly good coffee. My role is to recruit and train volunteers to serve. Running a coffee shop something new for me, so together we have developed a place where mission is the priority, good coffee and a safe place where people can be heard if they want, a place where the good news of the gospel is not just shown but talked about as well.
This is not a unique idea every church I know would like to do this, this was the right time for us, people had dreamed about it for a long time… this was the result of dreams and God’s Grace!
