Leviticus 11-15 – A holy people living in their real world

Leviticus 11-15 | A holy people living in their real worldThe lists of purity in Leviticus seem totally at odds with all that we experience now.

  • Why did God tell them what to eat and what not to eat?
  • How does it make sense in the light of Jesus’ interpretations and in the light of Peter’s vision?
  • What is unclean and how do we deal with it now?

Leviticus 8-10 – An anointed people

Leviticus 8-10 | An anointed peopleThe priests were given clothes that set them apart, and then given a task of representing God to people and people to God, and they couldn’t choose how they should do it according to their own whims or fancies, nor could they leave their post.

The reflection in the New Testament, particularly in 1 Peter, is that we have become that people for the sake of the world – and we are set apart, can’t duck the responsibilities, and have to minister in the way Jesus would.

Leviticus 1-7 – Sacrifice

Leviticus 1-7 | SacrificeThe book of Leviticus begins with a series of sacrifices – in particular the practicalities of how to prepare them.

In this sermon I explore the significance of the sacrifices – God expects people to mess up, but gives them a way out of the mess! The care that they have to take reflects the care taken in the life and death of Jesus – the sacrifice that allows us to live freely with God as his holy people – for the sake of the world.
