Christmas at Salford Elim

Christmas Alive in Lightoaks Park

This is happening on Sunday 18 December, 2.30-4.30pm.

We are doing this at the request of the Friends of Lightoaks Park, and are joining them in their own Christmas celebrations. There is planned to be a choir, a band, a Santa’s grotto and our Christmas Alive.

On that Sunday we will have a service together – but more than that, we want to ask that it’ll be all hands on deck.

There are jobs for everyone to be involved with. But just as importantly, we need people ready to go to the event and be friendly to everyone else there. So please come to church as usual.

Bring some lunch for yourselves and then we can make our way to the park to get everything ready and be there for people. This is the one day in the year when we ask all the church to be involved in outreach.

It’s going to be great – but we need you all!

Christmas Services

christmas-morning-service
We will meet on Christmas Day at 10.30 for an hour’s service. It’s a chance to come with family and meet one another on this really special day.

New Year's Day
We will also meet on New Year’s Day, which this year falls on a Sunday, for a relaxed service together at 10.30.

Partners in Prayer

Throughout December, we are praying for the Height Methodist Church. It’s a simple way to show our support and open our eyes to what others are doing for the kingdom of God in Salford.

Please check their prayer requests on the notice board for specific details.

Boaz Winter Night Shelter

A number of the church are involved with this charity who support destitute asylum seekers and refugees in Greater Manchester. There are many ways you could get involved but in particular, Ian is looking for another guy who would be willing to sleep over at Mount Chapel Church once a month on a Thursday night.

If you are interested, please see Ian for more details.

Evangelism

We, the church, are called to be witnesses of Jesus. We are called to share in His good news, as well as share his good news with others. This can be a scary thought, even if the desire is there.

In the new year, we will be starting a course called ‘Natural Evangelism’. It’s a course written by J John and looks at the following:

  • Why Evangelise?
  • What is the good news that we share?
  • What is Natural Evangelism?
  • How can I share my story?
  • How do social concern and evangelism go together?
  • How can we receive power for evangelism?

It will run on Monday evenings in The Vine Café. For more information please speak with Rob McGibbon.

Natalie’s Commissioning

On Sunday 8 January we will commission Natalie Chen as our Leader of Pastoral & Discipleship ministry.

We are really pleased that Natalie along with her husband, Sam, will be joining us.

Please do be quick to make them feel really at home in our church.

Advent Meditation

Christ of the cosmos, living Word,
Come to heal and save
Incognito, in our streets,
beneath the concrete,
between the cracks,
behind the curtains, within the dreams,
in ageing memories, in childhood wonder,
in secret ponds, in broken hearts,
in Bethlehem stable, still small voice
Word of God, amongst us.
