What You Need To Know (December 2023)

Getting Ready for Christmas

Carol Singing at the Lowry Shopping Mall

Sunday 3 December • 2.15-3.30

Last year around 60 people from different churches got together to sing carols at the Makers’ Market at the Lowry. It was a great time, easy, enjoyable and fun. Lots of us sang, others gave out sweets, others stopped and chatted to the shoppers. If you came last year, come again. If you didn’t,  come this time!

Bring n Share Lunch

Sunday 10 December

We will be sharing lunch together after the morning service. This will be a chance for you to bring something to share – so salads, savouries or desserts. Please be aware that we don’t have a cooker in church – just a normal size microwave. So it’s difficult (impossible!) to heat things up that are in big pots!

Carol Singing at Salford Royal Hospital

The hospital chaplains have invited groups from churches to go into the different wards to do some carol singing. Our ‘slots’ are:

Thursday 7 December • 6.45pm

Wednesday 13 December • 2.00-2.45pm

Thursday 14 December • 2.00-2.45pm

Wednesday 20 December • 2.00-2.45pm

See Ian if you are free to be involved.

Carols in the pub

Wed 13 December • 7.30-8.30pm

We will be carol singing in the Royal Sovereign pub (opposite church) on Wed 13 December from 7.30-8.30pm.

Christmas Candlelit Carol Service

Sunday 17 December • 6pm

Our carol service will be on Sunday 17th December at 6pm. Invite friends and family to come along to hear and sing the good news story of Christmas.

Christmas Eve (Sunday)

Sunday 24 December • 11.30am

There will be a service at the normal time. We would love the children to be at the service – they will go out to the hall during the service to prepare for a ‘scratch’ nativity that they will present to the rest of the church.

Christmas Day Service

Monday 25 December • 10.30am

Start Christmas Day well! Join us for a short (45 mins) worship service. We love it when children (and adults) bring a toy or a gift along with them. It’s a great time together.

Sunday 31 December

There will be NO service on this Sunday.

Activities in 2024

Prayer

We are going to structure our prayer life differently next year. We are asking that everyone finds some time (around 20 mins) on the first Thursday of every month to pray for the same things on your own.

On the first Wednesday of every month we will send you an email with a link to some music, a Bible text, a thought and some prayer pointers.

We want to involve everyone in this. You might want to think about fasting on the First Thursday of each month – either for the full day or part of the day. However you approach this, we hope it will help us focus together on things that need prayer and that we will be energised by seeing God answering our prayers.

We won’t be meeting together in the Vine as we have done for the last few years.

Housegroups

We have a number of housegroups that run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. One of the Thursday groups is online. They meet on the second and fourth week of every month.

If you don’t belong to a group but would like to, January is a great time to begin. The first groups will be on Tues 9 or Thurs 11 January.

If you want to join a group, contact Neil.

Study Groups

On the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month there will be different study groups.

From January to  April, there will be a group looking at Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. This group will meet in The Vine from 7.30pm. This group’s first session will be on Thursday 4 January. See Ian if you’d like to join in or sign up at Info Stand.

There will also be a Book Group running online. The groups first meeting will be on Thursday 18 January. The group will meet every 2 weeks for 3 months and will read this book during this time: The Old Testament in Seven Sentences: A Small Introduction to a Vast Topic by Christopher J.H. Wright. If you want to get to grips with the flow of the Old Testament, this will really help. It’s a short book which we will cover slowly written in a very accessible style by a great Bible teacher.

See Neil if you’d like to join in or sign up at Info Stand.

And because you’ll have new calendars soon!

Elim’s Hog Roast will be on Saturday 29 June

Our Away Day will be back at Barnstondale Centre, Wirral on Saturday 28 September
