Leviticus 25 – Money matters
Leviticus 25 is one of the chapters in the Bible that demonstrates how differently we see life than the way God suggested it should be for his people. The Year of Jubilee offered a completely different economic model for his people to live by. It was one that took into account both Justice and Mercy in a brilliant weaving together that enabled people to live responsibly and yet with hope for the periods of life when things go really wrong. I love the central teaching that once in every lifetime everyone had the chance to start again. And I love the fact that Jesus picks up on that theme for his disciples. Leviticus 8-10 – An anointed people
The priests were given clothes that set them apart, and then given a task of representing God to people and people to God, and they couldn't choose how they should do it according to their own whims or fancies, nor could they leave their post. The reflection in the New Testament, particularly in 1 Peter, is that we have become that people for the sake of the world – and we are set apart, can’t duck the responsibilities, and have to minister in the way Jesus would. Leviticus 1-7 – Sacrifice
The book of Leviticus begins with a series of sacrifices – in particular the practicalities of how to prepare them. In this sermon I explore the significance of the sacrifices – God expects people to mess up, but gives them a way out of the mess! The care that they have to take reflects the care taken in the life and death of Jesus – the sacrifice that allows us to live freely with God as his holy people – for the sake of the world.
